Little River Medical Center Chief Medical Officer Dr. Christine McGinley talks more with Chelsey Rene about how to prepare for a mammogram, what to expect during the screening and additional testing that may be required. Listen below!
What you need to know:
- A mammogram is an x-ray of your breasts. During a screening, your breasts will be placed in the machine and compressed to get a better picture.
- While uncomfortable, it is bearable, and if you're still hesitant, take an ibuprofen an hour or two before your appointment to help with discomfort.
- Wearing a two-piece outfit will make the mammogram easier for you.
- You will be asked to remove jewelry.
- You can wear perfume and deodorant.
- The test itself takes about ten minutes at most.
- If you do require more testing, it will oftentimes be benign. It's just an extra precaution to make sure everything is okay.
- You an get screened at Little River Medical Center in Little River, Carolina Forest and Aynor.
- Through a partnership with Conway Medical Center's Mobile Mammograms, you can also get screened at Little River Medical Center - Loris and Little River Medical Center - Health Access.
