Saint Frances Animal Center (SFAC) in Georgetown is an open-admission shelter, so they take in strays found on the streets and strays that come from animal control within the City of Georgetown and Georgetown County.
Normally, they hold around 300 animals, which keeps them at capacity, but after a recent hoarding situation in the area, their number grew exponentially in the span of a week.
Thankfully, the cats and dogs that came to them from the home in Wedgefield are pretty friendly and social, even after what they've been through. Some are dealing with old injuries and illness, but, overall, they are mainly healthy.
SFAC is giving housing and food to the new arrivals while continuing to care for the animals previously in the shelter. It's busy still, even weeks after the initial intake, and while the community's already shown an outpouring of support, they could use more even assistance through:
